Limitless Gist- My First Culture Shocks

Image
Welcome to Limitless!  I’ve backspaced so many times, and I just keep thinking of what to write. It’s like having so many things in your head, but you don’t know which exactly to pick. It do be like that sometimes, so I’m just going with the flow. Okay, delete that. Let’s pretend I’m perfect😄.  Let’s talk about My First Culture Shocks in Canada.  First culture shock for me when I came to Canada was “oh, I actually need to wear socks”.  Photo from Kate Laine on Unsplash  I always wondered why people in colder continents wore socks in their houses whenever I saw pictures and videos of them. Is it aesthetics or are they wearing it for aesthetics? Or is it the same reason people wear bathroom slippers back in Nigeria? Anyways, I got a firsthand answer. No one taught me to go throw a pair of socks on by the time the “inside cold” hit my leg. Apparently, the feet and palms get colder faster.  Second culture shock was liquid milk.  Photo from  Nikolai C...

Celebrating Others while Waiting

Image
Welcome to Limitless!  Today, let’s talk about celebrating others while waiting. I know this is one of those tough conversations, but hear me out.  Celebrating others while waiting can sometimes prove to be difficult.  I forgot that I had this topic in my blog draft until I saw a post on Twitter a few days ago. The user posted about how she had been praying the same prayers for about four years, I think, and she hasn’t gotten any answer yet.  She said, and I’m paraphrasing, that she gets sad whenever she sees other people’s testimonies and sometimes just log off while she’s watching the challenge probably because she was tired of asking for the same things with no results.  Moment of vulnerability- this exact thing happened to me some years ago. I was so sad about things not working in my life and didn’t see the need of repeating the same prayer points. So, I didn’t join the Hallelujah challenge that particular day.  How do people wait on God for 10,...

Shared Experiences of People’s Most Memorable Valentine

Image
Photo by Amir Esrafili on Unsplash  Welcome to Limitless!  What’s your most memorable Valentine? Have you ever had a Valentine when you were expecting to receive a gift, but you didn’t?  Have you even ever had a real Valentine’s? That’s a question for you single pringles😭🫢😂. Okay okay. Small joke.  I did an anonymous survey of people’s most memorable Valentine’s Experience. The following are the responses: 1. ‘Wow. Hmm let me see. I think the best Valentine’s Day ever was the very first one with my now hubby. I was visiting family in Nigeria; hubby was in the UK that period and he surprised me with cake, flowers, wine and the likes. Special delivery for me to my     childhood house.   It was very special because it was the first time my grandma got to find out about him and see the prayers she rained over him that day. It was a very very very great first impression of him to my family and vice versa. Definitely a Val’s day I would never forget’. My ...

Relationship People, Rest Abeg.

Image
Welcome to Limitless!  It’s February! Can I get a woohooooo🥳💃🏾💃🏾💃🏾.  Okay okay, let me calm down. I love February so much, I’m guessing you know the reason already. Hehe.  ~  Single people! Don’t let anybody pepper or pressure you!! Relationship people, never compare!! Anddd let us hear word👀. Okay okay, don’t bite me.  I want us to talk about comparison though.  You’ve probably heard the saying, “comparison is the thief of joy”. Comparison is that situation whereby instead of being grateful and happy for the little or much you have, you measure it with other people’s journey.  Stay with me.  To my Single People If you know that seeing people flaunt their Valentine gifts or relationships always makes you over-think your non-existent relationship life, just avoid wedding pages, at least for now! That, my friend, is hack number one. Guyssss, let me even gist you. That’s how I saw a couple kissing deeply on a wedding page today. Ahhhh ! Ahnah...

Staying with God in 2024- Trust

Image
Welcome to Limitless!  The first thing that comes to mind when I think of trust is believing and admitting that my possession is safe with someone or is safe somewhere.  I have also come to terms with the fact that trust is relying on an entity.  I trust that the bank will keep my money safe because it is government-approved and so on, so I put my money there. I trust that my cooker would come on when I turn on the switch because I have paid my electricity bill.  One of the similarities you will notice in matters of trusting institutions, things, or people is that they are probable to fail. Think of examples of how things could go wrong with the instances I have given.  However, I KNOW A GOD who never fails even in the slightest bit. He is PERFECT.  One of the major things the Holy Spirit highlighted at the beginning of this year was TRUST. He highlighted Surrender as well which we have discussed in a   previous post .  The picture the Holy Spirit...

Limitless Gist

Image
Welcome to Limitless!  I hope you are keeping well?  Today is one of those days that I have lots of serious things to say, yet I do not feel like writing on them. So, I’ve decided to just gist you guys today. Rumor has it that some of you like gist🤣 .This one is a cringey one though. Warning! I’ve warned you😂. Okay, let’s go!  ~ My Undergrad project supervisor, Dr. Akoja, called for a meeting with all her supervisees. I really went in for this meeting as a normal person.  Halfway through the meeting, my stomach started protesting. I rolled my eyes (of course internally) and ignored it.  However, I knew it was serious when I started sweating and getting uncomfortable; the stomach upset was getting worse. From the pain and discomfort, I knew it was gonna be a diarrhea poop, you know what I mean?🫠  That kind you can’t hold in. Oh my days🤦🏽‍♀️😂.  This meant only one thing, I had to ask to be excused. So, with a stifled but put-together voice, I begge...

Are New Year Resolutions Overrated?

Image
Welcome to Limitless!  On Resolutions  I promise to hit the gym every other day this year. I really need to keep fit. This is my new year resolution. Just kidding. It is unrealistic for me. I know I only hit the gym 3 or 4 times last year, so it is laughable to think I would be able to keep up with 4 days in the gym per week. But, is it actually possible? Of course, it is; as long as I don’t get tired mid year.  Whatever thing(s) you’ve resolved to start doing this year, just make sure you have checks in place. Your checks could be a friend, siblings, your spouse, a reminder on your phone, or even the reality of things. For instance, if I decided I would be hitting the gym every other day because I feel unfit and have a lower back pain. Then, the reality of why I started in the first place, along with how I felt when I wasn’t doing it should set me on track.  All I’m trying to say is remember the reason for the resolution whenever you seem to have discontinued the re...

Staying with God in 2024- Surrender

Image
Welcome to Limitless!  We enjoy fiction, relationship topics and real life experiences here.  Just in case you are wondering, I talk about God because he is the backbone of my real life experiences and relationships. Hey! And happy new year my highly esteemed Limitless audience. Thank you for always reading!  ~  So, what ways exactly can we stay with God this year? I will be concentrating on two points which are Surrender and Trust. However, we would only be discussing Surrender today because there is a lot to unpack here.  Surrender could mean different things to different categories of people.  First Category: It could be that you do not have a relationship with God at all.  Maybe you’ve attended church your whole life, or you’ve always heard people around you talk about God, or maybe you even have these family members that are Christians. But, you are scared and hesitant of going all in. Hmm. “Does it mean I can’t listen to my music anymore? So I wo...

In Retrospect of 2023

Image
Welcome to Limitless!  This is going to be a really short read. It is a reflection of 2023 from my point of view. So, enjoy the read.  A major prayer point that I kept bringing to God at the beginning of 2023 was to water every seed in me that wasn’t germinating yet. And did He answer that prayer! Of course, I won’t be going into details because I’ve not been instructed to.  I would say some things though.  1. I felt God’s presence in my life this year like never before.  2. I got closer to God. I tarried more in the place of prayer, read the Word more, spent more time with Him, and worshipped more.  3. I heard God more often and more clearly. 4. I really understood the meaning of obeying and  following His instructions.  5. I loved the assembly of the brethren (aka church) more.  6. I got corrected a lot by the Holy Spirit and saw some flaws in my character that needed to be pruned. 7. I started seeing signs of my secondary assignment for Hi...

Father Christmas, Christmas Jollof, and my Favorite Christmas Memories

Image
Welcome to Limitless!  Here’s a fun fact about me. I never knew about the Grinch as a child. In fact, I only knew about it recently. I could have seen it somewhere on TV, but I didn’t do much watching of television as a toddler. It was more of an outside play and adventure for me. The most memorable cartoon for me, if I watched at all, is Teletubbies🤣.  Also, I only knew Father Christmas, not Santa Claus😂. Okay, I’m joking. I knew what Santa was, but I knew him as Father Christmas, the guy with a big tummy and scary white hair, of course, with lots of goodies by his side. I guess we could say that Father Christmas is the Nigerian name for Santa. I was always terrified of Father Christmas though, I do not even know the reason. I would cry and try to run away from taking pictures with him. Real tears. I still wonder why exactly.  The culture here in Canada is, parents/guardians would put gifts in stockings and boxes, and tell their children that it’s from Santa. Then, eve...
