Adulthood- The Bill is Billing

Image
Welcome to Limitless! And happy third month, hehe!  ~ Reallyyyy! This adulthood is not for the weak. The bills are billing and the upkeep is upkeeping🤣. Yeah, can you tell I’m a Gen Z yet?! Everything is everythinging😂😂.  I was talking to one of my guys on Saturday and he was like he’s thinking about what he would eat when he gets home. I actually laughed out and shook my head. These are the issues. You’ve just gotta look after yourself. If you decide to drink garri and sleep, no one will question you. Regardless, you still have to fix a meal by yourself if you would like to participate in the eating experience😀. What? You would order a meal? In my opinion, it’s not even cost-effective for this adulthood financial journey. It’s just better to cook your own food; you save more money, and you know what you are eating that way. I mean occasional food orders are very needed.  I personally order a meal when I’m sick, achieved a feat, or I’m superrr lazy to cook and have no...

Limitless Gist- My First Culture Shocks

Image
Welcome to Limitless!  I’ve backspaced so many times, and I just keep thinking of what to write. It’s like having so many things in your head, but you don’t know which exactly to pick. It do be like that sometimes, so I’m just going with the flow. Okay, delete that. Let’s pretend I’m perfect😄.  Let’s talk about My First Culture Shocks in Canada.  First culture shock for me when I came to Canada was “oh, I actually need to wear socks”.  Photo from Kate Laine on Unsplash  I always wondered why people in colder continents wore socks in their houses whenever I saw pictures and videos of them. Is it aesthetics or are they wearing it for aesthetics? Or is it the same reason people wear bathroom slippers back in Nigeria? Anyways, I got a firsthand answer. No one taught me to go throw a pair of socks on by the time the “inside cold” hit my leg. Apparently, the feet and palms get colder faster.  Second culture shock was liquid milk.  Photo from  Nikolai C...

To live with roommates or not?

Image
Welcome to Limitless!  Do you like living with people? Or you just don’t have another option yet?  I’ve had roommates almost all my life. Let me share a summary of my experiences with you.  My mum was my roommate for the earlier part of my life.  I used to sleep in my mum’s room until about a year before I had to go off to high school.  My high school had a boarding school and I was in there throughout my study. My hostel didn’t have small rooms though, it had large halls instead. We could call them large rooms. So, there were three halls/hostels, and each hostel had about 15-20 bunks. Hence, you can say I had about 30 roommates!  There was always a closer roommate though, asides my close friends or clique. I don’t remember having a clique though, lol. I digress🤣 .  Okay, on track again, the closer roommate is called your “bunkie”. To be clear, the person on the upper or lower part of your bunk is called a bunkie. You also had bunk side mates i.e. tho...

5 Things to Consider Before Renting a Place

Image
Photo from Dillon Kydd on Unsplash Welcome to Limitless!  Here are five things to consider before renting a place.  1. Proximity to your workplace or/and school Are you willing to make the commute if the house is far from these places? Do you have a car? How many minutes car ride is it? How many minutes is your limit? Same with bus, the transit system is really not the best in Ottawa😭😂, so are you willing to make that bus commute plus some extra minutes? Sometimes, you might just need to add some extra money if you think you can’t manage the less affordable option that is farther.  2. Do you want to live alone or with roommates?  I feel this depends majorly on the size of your pocket. Renting a good one bedroom/bachelor apartment costs a minimum of about $1300. You could find a basement apartment for about $1000. Some apartments don’t come furnished and some are not all-inclusive. So, consider furnishing and utilities cost when deciding. The question really is can ...

Are our curls really enough?

Image
Welcome to Limitless!  Is  our natural hair actually enough? What do you think?  I understand that this is a touchy issue, but just hear me out and read till the end; it is a short read.  ~ I don’t think I ever saw anything fundamentally problematic with wigs until I came to Canada. I recently started becoming opinionated about them and slightly uncomfortable wearing them.  ~ I was talking to a friend the other day and it just made me realize that I wasn’t the only one on this boat.  ~ To be honest, wearing straight haired wigs seemed fine when I was in Nigeria, but wearing them is a totally different story here in Canada. It just sort of opened my eyes to the gravity of cultural assimilation.  ~ There’s no explanation other than that straight-haired wigs mimic the hair of Western women. This, I find problematic. I stand to be corrected. Permit me to use “straight-haired” to generalize non-curly, non-Afro type textured hair.  If we were to d...

What does Rivers of Living Water mean?

Image
Welcome to Limitless! I hope you’ve been keeping well. Over here, I’ve just been trying my best to navigate this adulthood journey. Recently, I went on a vacation which I had a really splendid time on. It turned out to be longer than I had planned by the time I got home because I became “really” sick… I’m grateful for life. ~ Enough of me. ~ Have you heard this song yet? “Out of my Belly shall flow rivers, rivers of living water iya iya e” by Prospa Ochimana. I started singing that song this evening and  it dawned on me that I hadn’t fully understood the lyrics yet. Great and pure melodious worship music. But, if I am to worship God with it, I have to understand it, digest it, and fix my eyes on Him based on the lyrics; worshipping Him in truth.   ~ So, I dug into Scripture: John Chapter 7 specifically. The 37th verse says “…Jesus stood, cried and said, if any man thirst, let him come unto me and drink”. 38 says “ He that believeth on me, as the Scripture hath said, out of his...
