In Retrospect of 2023

Image
Welcome to Limitless!  This is going to be a really short read. It is a reflection of 2023 from my point of view. So, enjoy the read.  A major prayer point that I kept bringing to God at the beginning of 2023 was to water every seed in me that wasn’t germinating yet. And did He answer that prayer! Of course, I won’t be going into details because I’ve not been instructed to.  I would say some things though.  1. I felt God’s presence in my life this year like never before.  2. I got closer to God. I tarried more in the place of prayer, read the Word more, spent more time with Him, and worshipped more.  3. I heard God more often and more clearly. 4. I really understood the meaning of obeying and  following His instructions.  5. I loved the assembly of the brethren (aka church) more.  6. I got corrected a lot by the Holy Spirit and saw some flaws in my character that needed to be pruned. 7. I started seeing signs of my secondary assignment for Him.   8. I experienced joy on a deeper level;

Father Christmas, Christmas Jollof, and my Favorite Christmas Memories

Image
Welcome to Limitless!  Here’s a fun fact about me. I never knew about the Grinch as a child. In fact, I only knew about it recently. I could have seen it somewhere on TV, but I didn’t do much watching of television as a toddler. It was more of an outside play and adventure for me. The most memorable cartoon for me, if I watched at all, is Teletubbies🤣.  Also, I only knew Father Christmas, not Santa Claus😂. Okay, I’m joking. I knew what Santa was, but I knew him as Father Christmas, the guy with a big tummy and scary white hair, of course, with lots of goodies by his side. I guess we could say that Father Christmas is the Nigerian name for Santa. I was always terrified of Father Christmas though, I do not even know the reason. I would cry and try to run away from taking pictures with him. Real tears. I still wonder why exactly.  The culture here in Canada is, parents/guardians would put gifts in stockings and boxes, and tell their children that it’s from Santa. Then, everyone would op

The Canteen

Image
Photo from Adams Arslan on Unsplash  Welcome to Limitless!  ~ “Can you move your busy body back, do you want to enter my stew?” She snarled at the customers, “In this economy, you will pay for it o. ”   She scraped the sweat on her forehead with her thumb and retied her wrapper. Ariyo Canteen was flooded with an interesting mix of customers. Men in their suits, women in their corporate wears, bike men, trade apprentices, and children all crowded around the giant coolers and pots being served from.  Jollof rice, white rice, beans and bread, swallow and soups, were in coolers on the canteen’s serving table. The spicy meaty aroma of freshly-made buka stew engulfed the whole canteen.  There was also Afro beats playing in the background; competing with the chattering of customers anyway.  One thing was lacking in the canteen: Coordination. There were no queues and everyone was pushing their way through. Faces were covered in sweat and frowns; customers clearly annoyed by the excessive wait

7 Gift Ideas for Christmas

Image
Welcome to Limitless!  Thinking of giving out some Christmas gifts this season?  Here are 7 Christmas gift ideas for you!  1. A kitchen gadget You could get a blender, air fryer, pots, set of utensils, kettle, garlic presser, grater, or pans for them. It is even better if you’ve been to their kitchen, and you know what they might need. Also, try to remember if you guys have had any conversation about kitchen utensils or gadgets.  2. A work gadget This could include an equipment or materials that they might need at work. For instance, if the person is a hairdresser, you could get comfy slides for them. Also, it could include work pants, dress, shirts, ties, socks, or shoes.  3. Clothing and shoes You could get them a particular clothing or shoes you think they would love. Some suggestions are pants, shirts, dress, loafers, boots, or heels.  4. Food stuff Food is now expensive🤣. So, I think most people would appreciate foodstuff. Items like raw rice, beans, cereals, canned food, or oil

In Defence of Ghosting

Image
Welcome to Limitless! In case you are new here, we discuss real life issues, relationship, and enjoy some fiction on Limitless. Enjoy the ride❤️.  Okay. Someone is already annoyed in advance and about to counter everything I say😂. Just calm down and stay with me.  Let’s talk about ghosting. Please refer to my Ghosting  blogpost. I explained what ghosting means there. That post was more directed at people who had experienced or who are experiencing ghosting. Today, I’m facing the ghosters! So, let’s peek into the heads of people who ghost and see what they were probably thinking.  1. They are busy:  This is the most common reason I’ve heard. “You know, my workplace is currently going through this accreditation thing, and it’s been so hectic”. They are too busy to reply you and end up replying your texts days, weeks, or even months after. They are either too busy with work, school, exams, ministry (for those doing talking stage with ministers😭).  Some will carry on with the conversatio

To live with roommates or not?

Image
Welcome to Limitless!  Do you like living with people? Or you just don’t have another option yet?  I’ve had roommates almost all my life. Let me share a summary of my experiences with you.  My mum was my roommate for the earlier part of my life.  I used to sleep in my mum’s room until about a year before I had to go off to high school.  My high school had a boarding school and I was in there throughout my study. My hostel didn’t have small rooms though, it had large halls instead. We could call them large rooms. So, there were three halls/hostels, and each hostel had about 15-20 bunks. Hence, you can say I had about 30 roommates!  There was always a closer roommate though, asides my close friends or clique. I don’t remember having a clique though, lol. I digress🤣 .  Okay, on track again, the closer roommate is called your “bunkie”. To be clear, the person on the upper or lower part of your bunk is called a bunkie. You also had bunk side mates i.e. those with the bunks beside yours.  J

5 Mistakes to Avoid When Writing a Research Paper

Image
Photo from Unsplash Welcome to Limitless!  Have you ever felt so annoyed by a professor’s comment on your work because you know better and should have been more careful? I feel you. Here are 5 mistakes to avoid when writing a research paper.  1. Not sticking to your format’s style What kind of citation style does your discipline use? MLA? Okay, perfect! The MLA guide is your new best friend (Of course, this is an example). Most of these guides have their own specific formatting styles, including the fonts and sizes to use for headers, sub-headings, and texts. So, make sure you are complying with everything to the T. If you can’t find your citation’s guide,  owl.purdue.edu  is an excellent resource for finding most citation guides.  2. Not including page numbers  This is a very minor error that you could easily forget. I would suggest that you write it on a sticky note and paste it on your computer if you have a tendency to forget. Also, make sure you are stickin

5 Things to Consider Before Renting a Place

Image
Photo from Dillon Kydd on Unsplash Welcome to Limitless!  Here are five things to consider before renting a place.  1. Proximity to your workplace or/and school Are you willing to make the commute if the house is far from these places? Do you have a car? How many minutes car ride is it? How many minutes is your limit? Same with bus, the transit system is really not the best in Ottawa😭😂, so are you willing to make that bus commute plus some extra minutes? Sometimes, you might just need to add some extra money if you think you can’t manage the less affordable option that is farther.  2. Do you want to live alone or with roommates?  I feel this depends majorly on the size of your pocket. Renting a good one bedroom/bachelor apartment costs a minimum of about $1300. You could find a basement apartment for about $1000. Some apartments don’t come furnished and some are not all-inclusive. So, consider furnishing and utilities cost when deciding. The question really is can you afford living a

Are our curls really enough?

Image
Welcome to Limitless!  Is  our natural hair actually enough? What do you think?  I understand that this is a touchy issue, but just hear me out and read till the end; it is a short read.  ~ I don’t think I ever saw anything fundamentally problematic with wigs until I came to Canada. I recently started becoming opinionated about them and slightly uncomfortable wearing them.  ~ I was talking to a friend the other day and it just made me realize that I wasn’t the only one on this boat.  ~ To be honest, wearing straight haired wigs seemed fine when I was in Nigeria, but wearing them is a totally different story here in Canada. It just sort of opened my eyes to the gravity of cultural assimilation.  ~ There’s no explanation other than that straight-haired wigs mimic the hair of Western women. This, I find problematic. I stand to be corrected. Permit me to use “straight-haired” to generalize non-curly, non-Afro type textured hair.  If we were to dig into the history of wigs, we would see th

What does Rivers of Living Water mean?

Image
Welcome to Limitless! I hope you’ve been keeping well. Over here, I’ve just been trying my best to navigate this adulthood journey. Recently, I went on a vacation which I had a really splendid time on. It turned out to be longer than I had planned by the time I got home because I became “really” sick… I’m grateful for life. ~ Enough of me. ~ Have you heard this song yet? “Out of my Belly shall flow rivers, rivers of living water iya iya e” by Prospa Ochimana. I started singing that song this evening and  it dawned on me that I hadn’t fully understood the lyrics yet. Great and pure melodious worship music. But, if I am to worship God with it, I have to understand it, digest it, and fix my eyes on Him based on the lyrics; worshipping Him in truth.   ~ So, I dug into Scripture: John Chapter 7 specifically. The 37th verse says “…Jesus stood, cried and said, if any man thirst, let him come unto me and drink”. 38 says “ He that believeth on me, as the Scripture hath said, out of his belly sh
