ON WAITING FOR BIRTHDAY GIFTS

Welcome to Limitless!

~

I listened to motivational speakers today.

When I got back to the sanctity of my home, I looked into my mirror and said, “Morolake, you did a great job today”. I laughed out loud after realizing the words I just uttered. Did I just pull a motivational speech on myself?

As laughable as it MAY sound, I would like to emphasize that it is so much needed sometimes.

I mean, I had had a super long day that I got back to my house by 1am after leaving my house before 10am the previous day. The most time I got alone was 10 minutes. Trust me, it was a longggg day.

After I told myself that I was doing a great job, it dawned on me, as a quick reminder, to always pat myself on the back.

It’s a bit of delusion (delulu) to always expect people to clap for you when you are not even clapping for yourself.

Can I shock you? Some people will never recognize your worth.

It is entirely up to you to know your worth, carry yourself with value, and appreciate your existence.

ON BIRTHDAY GIFTS:

I think last year was the year that I decided that I would stop subtly looking forward to birthday gifts. In my opinion, and for me, it is actually needless, and it is a recipe for disappointment.

Why don’t I enjoy my birthday, buy myself a gift, or even go out to have the best time of my life instead of waiting on other people to do that for me.

Please don’t get me wrong, it is a beautiful thing to be celebrated by other people.

However, I would question myself if I put undue pressure on other people in my mind for them to do something for me. For me, it is entirely worrisome. It is even better to ask than not ask and be secretly hoping they would do something.

I’m not saying you should adopt this approach. It is just what I do.

Hm. So, I said all of that to say, pat yourself on the back, clap for yourself, appreciate yourself, and hold yourself with high esteem.

Thank you so much for reading.

Till we meet again!🌹
