Just here to rant- Ontario Thunderstorm recap

A very fatal thunderstorm hit Ontario on Saturday, 21st May. Trees, electric poles and wires completely collapsed.

It’s still a very sad event because lives were lost, while some sustained injuries. I’m really praying for their speedy recovery.

Meanwhile, there has been power outage in some parts of Ottawa since Saturday. In fact, my house just got power back this morning. Over 150,000 people still don’t have power. Imagine the amount of refrigerated and frozen food that would go to waste.

Also, power fuels almost everything, including cookers and microwaves. So, some people haven’t had homemade warm meals since Saturday.

Let me tell you my side of the story.

I was in a course mate’s house when I got this emergency alert.๐Ÿ‘‡. We had just arrived from ‘outside’.

I immediately told her I was leaving. She told me she would call an Uber for me. I was still telling her ‘no, I can walk, my house is just 10 minutes from here”. Anyway, I eventually agreed to the Uber (Thank God I did). On my way back, I noticed that the clouds were very angry. I just knew it was about to go down.

So, I got home and was about to warm my first meal of the day. I went upstairs to close the doors and I noticed that the light bulbs were blinking. As a Naija girl, I just knew the power was about to be out๐Ÿ˜ญ๐Ÿ˜‚. By the time I got downstairs, power was out. So, I drank garri that night๐Ÿคฃ.

I thought the power outage would be a few hours thingy. Some people still don’t have power as we speak. I was so scared yesterday because I had just bought three bags of milk and a crate of eggs. I was scared of them getting spoilt. Then, there was my cooked food, not to talk of what was in my freezer. All I could think of was, ‘who would reimburse me?’ ๐Ÿ˜ญ
Thankfully, ice packs were put in the fridge, so, that helped a lot.

The thunderstorm was not funny at all though. The wind was crazy. The storm was a mix of wind, hail and rain, scientists have tagged it a derecho. Imagine a storm uprooting a full-blown tree. Just imagine it. It was that bad.
It’s very tragic that trees fell on some people’s houses and cars, injuring them. I sincerely wish they recover quick and well.

I opened my eyes this morning and I saw light.๐Ÿ˜‚
I almost shouted “up nepa”๐Ÿ˜ญ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚. You know that kind of light they bring after taking it for one week straight in Nigeria. That was how it felt.

I’m not completely relieved yet though because some people still don’t have power and because of all the bad news.

So, that’s it on my rant guys. It’s been a very eventful and traumatic weekend.

Hope you guys are good. We fall back to ‘how to shoot your shot- part 2’ next week! Bye!
