The mirror in my heart

Welcome to Limitless!
First, I want to state clearly that I’m by no means perfect, and all I will be saying here today are from a place of love and instruction.

This is the first part in a series I title- PRACTICAL TIPS TO STRENGTHEN YOUR PRAYER LIFE.

What I really want to dwell on today is “searching our hearts”. This is what God has been teaching me this season and I just thought to share it with you.

It is so easy to pray amiss if you are not sensitive. Praying amiss could mean a lot of things, but it also means praying when you know your heart is not right with God.

For instance, I can’t be asking for POWER if I know there is someone I’m keeping in my heart that I need to let go.

I know our personalities are different. For example, it is difficult for me to warm up to people at first. I can be polite with you, or get into ‘work mode’, but once I don’t like your countenance or my spirit doesn’t flow with you, I close my heart.

It might even be more difficult if you know you’ve heard or seen stuff about someone, or you just feel in your spirit that something isn’t right with the person, and you know you would be seeing the person often.

You know, there is a saying that goes, ‘concentrate on the message not the person’ or ‘just ignore’. I believe this is easier to do if you would be listening to the person once or just have occasional encounters. It becomes more difficult when you have to be relating with the person often.

Also, most times, when we choose to ignore, a barrier builds up and you find it difficult to love the person. So, what do you do? Remember, it is God’s plan and commandment that we love our neighbors as ourselves.

I would just share my own experience (without revealing too much details). When this happened to me, I had to completely trust God to work on me because his plans for me are that I will dwell in love and extend it to people.

And he definitely worked on me. He softened my heart completely and just sorted everything out. In fact, I was very amazed by the way he did it.

So, if I had said “I would just focus on this person, not the message” or “I’m just gonna ignore”. That means, I wouldn’t be trusting God completely to work on me.

This is why it is very important to talk to God about little things that you even think does not matter, things you know needs to be worked on. Because as a believer, he is in you and he knows everything that is going on. The Bible says the eyes of the Lord are in every place, beholding the evil and the good.

Look at Romans 8:11- “ But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you”.

That verse means though you are flesh and blood, when the Spirit of God comes in, he has the ability to turn around the weaknesses in your personality, positively, if only you will trust him and admit that you have a problem.

Can I be brutal a bit?

Sometimes, as believers, we like to play the ‘dumb game’. What do I mean?

When you know a relationship is not of God or something you are doing is not right, or you disobey God’s instruction, but you choose to ignore, you go before him regardless and ask him for numerous things, forgetting that you have some things to sort out. That is playing dumb. I don’t even need to say much, you already know.

You know there is this saying that goes, “you can lie to others, but you can’t lie to yourself”.

Let me tell you now that you can even lie to yourself, because you can refuse to admit that what you are doing is wrong. However, as a believer, you can never lie to the Holy Spirit because HE IS INSIDE YOU, He sees you, he knows every single thing that is going on.

The Holy Spirit is the mirror in the heart of every believer.

So, you have to be plain. Go before Him, trusting him completely to work on you.

If you think there is nothing going on, still tell God to search your heart, because the Bible says all the ways of a man are clean in his own eyes but it is God that weighs the spirits.

I’m not saying all these from a place of condemnation because that is Satan’s number one plan- to guilt you into thinking God will never take you back.

Besides, the Holy Spirit just dropped something in my heart right now. How can you differentiate between the enemy guilting you and when the Holy Spirit is convicting you?

The answer is, Satan’s plan is to turn you away from God. So, he would guilt you into thinking you are too filthy to go back to God or that you’ve gone too far.

So, he would say, “since you’ve started, why don’t you take it all the way?”, “you can just do it and ask for forgiveness later”, “even God will understand”, “so what?”, “this is just the way you are”, “you that is God’s ‘beloved’, how would He even overlook this big sin you’ve just committed”. He would place distractions that will keep you from going back to asking God for forgiveness, and so on. Look, the devil is a big bastard.

However, when the Holy Spirit convicts you, it will always be about reconciliation and going back to God. “You’ve done this, but my grace is still sufficient”, “admit that you’ve done wrong and come back to me”. He convicts with love, and not with the intention of making you turn away from Him.

Okay, now that we’ve established that we should always search our hearts and trust the Holy Spirit to help us.

Another thing I want to state is that we should trust the Holy Spirit to help us to pray.

Look at Romans 8:27- “And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God”.

It is exactly what it means.

Trust God to help you to pray. Tell him to search every nook and cranny of your heart so you don’t pray amiss. Ask him to fill you with the Holy Spirit, with the evidence of speaking in tongues, if you’ve not received it yet. It is a gift, and as a believer, it is not exclusive to just some people, it is available for you too.

The key is trusting God completely.

Did you learn anything today?

I was already writing this post but I didn’t know what to title it. So, I asked people for suggestions on what they would like to see next on the blog. As God would have it, Pastor Momoh confirmed it by suggesting “the mirror in my heart” as what he would like to see. God works in mysterious ways, people!😁

This post is purely sponsored by the Holy Spirit, so are my experiences and my whole being. In case you are wondering, posts like this are under the tag ‘real life experiences’ and ‘relationship’.

I am a follower of Christ, and I love to share things about Him whenever I’m led to. This post is mostly directed at those who are believers and followers of Jesus Christ.

Thanks for reading guys! What more can I say to appreciate you? Thank you, very much.πŸ™
