Tingles (4)

Welcome to Limitless!

——————————
I tried suppressing my smile but I ended up bursting into laughter too. This is one of the things I hate to admit that I miss. His contagious laughter. With pursed lips, I gave him a pointed look, before I got too carried away with his spell.

“Wale! What’s funny. Did I see wrong?” I asked. I watched as he dusted an imaginary speck from his trousers and looked at me with a smile.

“Maybe you did. Do you remember Shally? Shalewa Johnson, my closest cousin that I used to talk about? Yes, exactly. That was her. She’s married now, and her daughter is the sweetest little creature I’ve ever met.” His eyes crinkled with a smile. “She wanted her favorite uncle to get her ice-cream but, her mum wanted to get something in town too. So, she tagged along.”

“Ohhh” Realization dawned on me that I was in no place to ask him such a question. What if he was married for real? Well, he asked me out anyway. “I thought she was your baby mama or something”

“I knew it” He let out peals of laughter again. “Girl, it’s been only you. I really regret ever leaving you. I was so all about making money, that I thought I couldn’t juggle business with you”

“So, is that why you had to act like that? You didn’t even let us straighten things properly. You just wanted to end things like you didn’t love me. I remember how I pleaded with you, to calm down, to let us work out a solution. But you weren’t willing to listen”, I said.

He squeezed his eyes shut till it began to water, then, he opened it. “Look. I’m sorry I didn’t handle it well. As I said, I was young and foolish. I’m really sorry for treating you that way”, a tear dropped. “I’ve been trying to reach you but you wouldn’t even pick my calls or reply my texts”.

Ehnehnn. Why would I pick them. You started it and I just returned the energy. So, now that you are a millionaire, you are wagging your tail all around”, I said.

Ahnahnn! No now! I swear I still love you and I can’t even wait anymore. Please”, he said.

“Huh. So, why did you wait till you saw me in a restaurant before you remembered me?”, I retorted.

“Ah! Dide! Deep down within you, you know how hard I’ve been trying to reach you. I wanted to storm your office next Monday but thank God I saw you at that restaurant”, he said.

“I hear you. Is the one hour not up already?”I said while looking around.

“Dide. Please. I don’t think I can live anymore without you. It’s been tough and crazy. I really need you in my life. Please, would you give me another chance. Let’s make this work again. I still love you. Please Dee”

“Na so. How am I sure when a project comes up, you wouldn’t leave me and say you want to concentrate on the project?” I replied

“Never. That’s never ever going to happen again. It’s gonna be me and you against the world, I promise”, he said.

“Well. Okaayyy. Let’s see...”, I said.

“What?! Is that a yes?” He shouted and looked at me with wide eyes and the most gorgeous smile.

“Yes”, I said
He didn’t even let me finish. He stood up and did a mini victory dance. I held my knees and laughed till my eyes started to water. Then, he turned to me and carried me up bridal style.

“Thank you. I wouldn’t let you down I promise”, he shouted as he swirled me around.
My bellow of laughter was echoing round the park.

“Please let me down”, I said. He stopped and smiled down at me. I could give anything to have that smile plastered in my room.

“You just made me the happiest man in the world. Thank you”, he said.

“Tell me about it! Thank you too!” I replied.

“Lest I forget, I wanted to invite you to the opening of my restaurant’s foundation initiative. We would be feeding 1000 kids every month”, he said.

“That’s superb! I would love to come. When is it?” I listened carefully as he gave me the details.

I sighed contentedly, happy he is at least becoming the man he had always dreamed of. I smiled at him, happy to be connected with my first love again.

Dee is smart though. I like the series of questions she asked and the sequence in which she did. Communication!
