To live with roommates or not?

Image
Welcome to Limitless!  Do you like living with people? Or you just don’t have another option yet?  I’ve had roommates almost all my life. Let me share a summary of my experiences with you.  My mum was my roommate for the earlier part of my life.  I used to sleep in my mum’s room until about a year before I had to go off to high school.  My high school had a boarding school and I was in there throughout my study. My hostel didn’t have small rooms though, it had large halls instead. We could call them large rooms. So, there were three halls/hostels, and each hostel had about 15-20 bunks. Hence, you can say I had about 30 roommates!  There was always a closer roommate though, asides my close friends or clique. I don’t remember having a clique though, lol. I digress🤣 .  Okay, on track again, the closer roommate is called your “bunkie”. To be clear, the person on the upper or lower part of your bunk is called a bunkie. You also had bunk side mates i.e. those with the bunks beside yours.  J

5 Mistakes to Avoid When Writing a Research Paper

Photo from Unsplash Welcome to Limitless!  Have you ever felt so annoyed by a professor’s comment on your work because you know better and should have been more careful? I feel you. Here are 5 mistakes to avoid when writing a research paper.  1. Not sticking to your format’s style What kind of citation style does your discipline use? MLA? Okay, perfect! The MLA guide is your new best friend (Of course, this is an example). Most of these guides have their own specific formatting styles, including the fonts and sizes to use for headers, sub-headings, and texts. So, make sure you are complying with everything to the T. If you can’t find your citation’s guide,  owl.purdue.edu  is an excellent resource for finding most citation guides.  2. Not including page numbers  This is a very minor error that you could easily forget. I would suggest that you write it on a sticky note and paste it on your computer if you have a tendency to forget. Also, make sure you are stickin

5 Things to Consider Before Renting a Place

Image
Photo from Dillon Kydd on Unsplash Welcome to Limitless!  Here are five things to consider before renting a place.  1. Proximity to your workplace or/and school Are you willing to make the commute if the house is far from these places? Do you have a car? How many minutes car ride is it? How many minutes is your limit? Same with bus, the transit system is really not the best in Ottawa😭😂, so are you willing to make that bus commute plus some extra minutes? Sometimes, you might just need to add some extra money if you think you can’t manage the less affordable option that is farther.  2. Do you want to live alone or with roommates?  I feel this depends majorly on the size of your pocket. Renting a good one bedroom/bachelor apartment costs a minimum of about $1300. You could find a basement apartment for about $1000. Some apartments don’t come furnished and some are not all-inclusive. So, consider furnishing and utilities cost when deciding. The question really is can you afford living a

Are our curls really enough?

Welcome to Limitless!  Is  our natural hair actually enough? What do you think?  I understand that this is a touchy issue, but just hear me out and read till the end; it is a short read.  ~ I don’t think I ever saw anything fundamentally problematic with wigs until I came to Canada. I recently started becoming opinionated about them and slightly uncomfortable wearing them.  ~ I was talking to a friend the other day and it just made me realize that I wasn’t the only one on this boat.  ~ To be honest, wearing straight haired wigs seemed fine when I was in Nigeria, but wearing them is a totally different story here in Canada. It just sort of opened my eyes to the gravity of cultural assimilation.  ~ There’s no explanation other than that straight-haired wigs mimic the hair of Western women. This, I find problematic. I stand to be corrected. Permit me to use “straight-haired” to generalize non-curly, non-Afro type textured hair.  If we were to dig into the history of wigs, we would see th
